Wow this was quite the eventful week! We started it off by finding a GOLDEN investigator family and in the second lesson with them we set 4 baptismal dates for them next month! So in Spanish we have a saying for these families, 'familias escogidas,' which essentially means 'chosen families,' but that's exactly who these people are. We contacted them on Tuesday in their house and they told us about all of the problems that they had been dealing with, including the husband getting laid off resulting in them not being able to afford the light bill or gasoline until next month. The heat down here is really bad and they don't have any form of AC or a fan because they simply don't have any money to pay the bills. So we've been teaching them outside in front of their house and honestly I'm super excited and have really high hopes about this family. Their names are Jose, Christina, and they have three kids, ages 13, 11, and 6. They know a lot about the bible and religion in general and they have always had this doubt about which church they should join but we taught them about the Resoration and The Book of Mormon and they loved it! I know that the Lord prepares people to hear our message, even if that means humbling them by getting laid off and getting rid of their AC for a month. I am so excited to teach these guys!!!
Alright so I've got a really funny story to tell you guys that happened on Friday. Ok so my comp and I were asleep laying in our beds when all of the sudden we hear some rattling sounds out back. So I wake up and think like, what the heck, and I look out the window and see some dude with tan pants. Usually the other Elders come over to wash their clothes with the washing machine that's out back, so I just assume it's them and I lay back down to sleep. But then I decided to ask my comp what time is was and he tells me that it's 5:15am. So that right there caught my attention because of how early it was so I look out back again but this time I saw a skinny, drug-addict looking dude messing around with our washing machine. He had moved it about five feet from where it was and then starting trying to pick it up as if to carry it away and steal it from us haha. That thing is super heavy and just watching him trying to lift it was super funny to me. So I tell my comp someone's trying to steal our washing machine and he gets up and slaps on the window to try and scare him away but he doesn't leave and just stands there without making a move. My comp hit the window again and this moron tries putting it BACK INTO PLACE as if he wasn't trying to steal it to begin with (smh). Eventually my comp opens the door and yells at him and then he runs off. It was just super funny because he thought he could just steal this thing despite it being extremely heavy all by himself and without a truck. We're pretty sure it's the same ratchet scumbag looking dude that's stolen some other small stuff from us before. But we called the owner of our house and he's going to put the rest of the fence around our house soon so it shouldn't cause anymore problems.
We had our last conference with President Hernandez on Saturday so we all said goodbye to him for the last time. President Robinson will be getting here on the 30th of this month to take over so I'm hoping he'll be a good president. Transfers are also this upcoming Monday and I'm almost positive I'm getting transferred to a new area so the next time I write you guys I'll be out of Guaymas!!
I'm pretty sure that that's about all for this week. I love you guys, que les vaya muy bien!!!
Con amor, Elder Thayne
