This week was really great! We spent most of the time looking for references and knocking on doors, as well as prepping Swamy for her baptism this Saturday. I'm still really excited and happy for her and her family, Saturday just can't come sooner! To explain the picture of us all soaken wet, after a lesson we started playing a game called 'what are the odds?' and essentially if you both say the same number after choosing the odds to do something, you have to do it. So we play that for about a half hour and then eventually all three of us had to get hit with a bucket of water! It was a really fun night and I love hanging out with them because I feel like I'm back at home.
Ohhhh something reaaaally funny happened on Thursday. So here in Mexico it's customary for the women to greet themselves with a little kiss on the other person's cheek instead of a handshake but only the sister missionaries are allowed to do it. So we're there at a member's house eating lunch and her two granddaughters (both teenagers) walk in and say hi to their grandma and aunt and whatnot. So after one of them is done saying hi to everyone else, they come over to my comp Elder Francis while he's eating (totally not prepared) and he goes to give her a handshake. But instead of the handshake, she leans over and lays a big fat kiss on the cheek while he's just sitting there being super still haha. It was super awkward and he just sat there in silence trying to mask what had just happened but the rest of us were all dying laughing. The member explains to her right after that us Elders aren't allowed to give kisses like that but it was just great. If you guys knew my comp well you would understand just how funny it is. He's Canadien too so there's tons of stuff he says and does differently than I do. For example, instead of saying 'bathroom,' he calls it a 'washroom.' I remember the first time he said that to me I just sat there staring at him in the eyes thinking in my head 'what in the heck is a washroom???' haha. He also calls 'dinner,' 'supper.' That one always catches me off guard too ha.
Anyways, enough about my comp and I's dumb experencies. I heard about Mom getting a job over at UVU and she and Lauren graduating! Great for them! It sounds like it's been nice having you guys be together for a bit for the past little bit. I can't wait to Skype you guys on the 10th! They're going to be telling us our transfers for the 11th on the 9th so I'll be able to tell you if I'm getting transferred or staying here another six weeks.
Well have a great week you guys, love you all!
Con amor, Elder Thayne
